We’ve now been in 2017 for a few days, so it is time for me to write about the past year, 2016. A lot of things happened during this year, bad ones, in my home country and all around the world. In the middle of all of this, my year was pretty nice. I travelled quite a bit, I met new great people, discovered new things and much more. In this article, I wanted to talk about the 16 moments and things that made 2016 a nice year for me.
1. Mon premier hiver Canadien // My first Canadian winter
I was born and raised in the South of France, therefore I had never seen what a ‘real’ winter was like, with snow and very cold weather. However, I was expecting it to be a lot worse, even though it felt like -41° on St-Valentine week-end. I also discovered the city under the snow which was super exciting, but I also learned that I despise walking in the snow.
2. Premier voyage aux Etats-Unis // My first trip to the US
A few months ago, I talked to you about my weekend in Philadelphia and Washington during the month of March. It was the first time that I had ever set foot on the US ground, and I wasn’t disappointed. Philadelphia made a strong first impression on me, and I would definitely love to go back there and explore the city a bit more.
3. New-York x2
Back in April I went to New-York for the very first time, then I went back again in Novembre. I finally got to discover this city I had heard so much about and I now understand why everyone love it and want to go back. In my opinion, it a city that anyone could enjoy because it has some many different things to offer that would fit everyone’s envy and tastes. You can take a look at the two articles that I wrote about where to eat in New-York and what to do here and there.
At the end of May, in the span of 5 days, I got so to see two of my favourite bands on stage, Coldplay and Maroon 5. The 2 shows were very different, but I liked them both in their own way. Coldplay’s was a real show with lights and balloons and Chris Martin has such a great stage presence! On the other hand, Maroon 5 show was more classic but still very enjoyable. I was so excited to finally be able to hear live a few of my favourites songs and I cannot wait to go see other bands live in 2017.
5. Un Euro (presque) parfait // An almost perfect Euro 2016
This year was the year I volunteered at the 2016 Euro cup. I was part of the Hospitality team and that experience was one of the best ones in my life. There I was able to knpw what goes behing the scene of such a big sports events, meet new people and attend some of the biggest games of the competition (e.g. France vs. Germany). The experience would have been even better if France had won it in the end, but it was not the case, yet I am still very proud of the team and what they’ve accomplished during this Euro and I am so glad I got to contribute to the well-being of this event.
6. Faire du sport encore et encore // Working out more often
It is safe to say that this year was the one I really got into working out and taking care of myself and my body once and for all. I had been trying for many years but never succeeded until then. I think what helped me was to finally sign up to a gym. Now I even feel bad in my skin and body if I don’t go to the gym in a while. I’ve also seen changes in my body and I feel better and stronger physically and mentally. I definitely plan on following this path for the years to come.
7. Boston, Massachusetts
Only two weeks after my trip to New-York in Novembre, I spent one weekend in Boston. It was really nice to be able to wander around the city wearing only a jumper before coming back to a snowy Montréal. Beacon Hills was by far my favourite neighbourhood in the city and the houses looked really nice! We obviously had to make a stop at Harvard, and it was nice to walk around the campus on the day of the football game against Yale.
8 à 12. Quelques objets // A few items
In 2016, I spent less money on stuff and more on experiences such as trips. Therefore I do not have a big list of my favourite items for this past year. The first item is a bag from Rebecca Minkoff that I had been wanting for ages. I just love its shape and how it looks, and it can actually fit a lot in it which is very practical. Then after hearing about it so many Youtubers talk about it, I decided to buy Champagne Pop from BECCA Cosmetics and I immediately knew I had made a good decision. It looks amazing on the skin and stays on for a really long time! It is also great because you do not need a lot of product each time you use it, therefore it is going to last a long time. While I am still taking about makeup, I have to mention Honey Love, my favourite MAC lipstick. I think this nude shade looks better on me than Velvet Teddy, and I know I will continue to buy it for a long time. Another product I really liked using during 2016, was Eau Roma Water a toner from LUSH. I really like to use this toner when I get out of the shower, while on a plane and after working-out. Finally, the last item on this list is a black bra from Victoria’s Secret. I am not used to wearing triangle bras but this one from VS is so comfortable and sexy as well, I just love wearing it.
13 à 15. Culture et plus // Culture and more
On a more cultural note, I’d say that one of my favorite thing I discovered this year was The Bachelor. I have never been to fond of reality TV but I became obsessed with this show even thought I thought I would hate it at first! And I am so excited because the new season of The Bachelor started last week in the US. Now musically speaking, I’d say Mind of Mine by Zayn was by far my favorite album of this year! I was really excited to hear his first solo album and I was not disappointed. For a while now I’ve become a lot more interested in cooking, so for my birthday I got one of Deliciously Ella’s cookbooks which I really enjoy! It is full of easy and very good recipes and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a cookbook!
16. Mes amis et ma famille // Friends and family
In 2016 I am grateful for all the moments I got to spend with my friends and family. Even though I now live more than 5000 km away from them, it always feels like I never left when I go back.
I cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for me, and I hope your year will be a good one.
